It's a Nor'easter!

A nor'easter is blowing into town, and the city is shutting down. Schools shut down at 1, my library is shutting at 5 (instead of 9). Which sucks, because I'm off at 5 anyway, so I don't get to go home early. Poor me. At least there is lovely fluffy snow to play with. It doesn't even seem really bad - the streets are clear, the snow isn't sticky or heavy. This city is full of wimps, I say.

Okay, in the photos you can't see most of the really big fluffy flakes coming down (pretty much horizontally), but just imagine they're there. See - it's not so bad!

Yes, more geekiness! This weekend I saw "Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death"

If you ever saw an episode of Dr Who, this isn't one of them. This is a parody made by Comic Relief UK back in '99. Not only does it spoof the show, it has great people in it: Rowan Atkinson, Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha and Jonathan Pryce.

Very very funny!

I'm such a geek!

The new series of Dr Who is going to start, probably, on March 26! I'm so excited about this, and there isn't even a deal to get the show in the US yet. Canada gets it on CBC, the UK gets it on BBC, and I'm thinking that this is what high-speed internet access is for (or friends with VCRs in other countries)!

More Gates Fun!

And here we have... The Hooters Gates!

"The Crackers"

"The Crackers" is another parody of Christo's Gates. Really, all the stuff making fun of the Gates is way more fun than the Gates themselves. Or maybe I'm just a Philistine.

Matrix Ping Pong

Did you like "The Matrix"? More importantly, did you like the special effects? Matrix Ping Pong makes a game of ping pong spectacular in a Wachowshi sort of way.

On to another etymologically related game. Remember Pong? Kind of boring, once you'd played it a couple of hundred times. This has been on the net for a good long while, but it still makes me giggle.

Romance novels I'd like to see!

Yes, I read romance. Yes, sometimes I'm embarrassed to read them on the bus or other public places because of the cheesy covers. But these are just made for flaunting in public!

If you liked "The Gates," you'll love this:

The Gates are huge, impressive, cover acres of Central Park, and cost 21 million. Behold the Somerville Gates:

The Tub Gates

The Door Gates

The Feeding Gates

The Table Gates

As with the Central Park Gates, The Somerville Gates are ephemeral and temporary. Sadly, they are no more

Don't be late...!

Sometimes you just want to track patrons down and make them give their very very overdue library stuff back. Like the only copy the library owns of Laurell K. Hamilton's Guilty Pleasures, which you've been dying to read but someone took it out and never returned it. Unfortunately they do not pay me enough to do that, but wouldn't it be nice?

By popular demand: the "Just Gay Enough" article

Last year sometime there was an article floating around the web about the perfect guy who was "just gay enough." It's still funny, although the article seems to have fallen by the wayside. In the spirit of resurrecting old but funny stuff, here is The perfect guy: smart, manly, makes great cookies

The Gates in Central Park Feb 19, 2005

Here are some pictures I took this weekend. I went to New York with Jen and Liz and Karen to look at the artistic event that was The Gates (and get in some good shopping). Here are the Gates (and Jen and Liz and Karen). I also bought a really cute watch and some rainboots. I'll post more pictures if Jen and Karen get their pictures to me. Maybe I'll even be in a few shots.
